I have been wanting to create a recipe that recreates that Heinz/Bush’s baked beans sweetness and dippable consistency. This is nostalgia in a pot.
We made this in our Weekly Cooking Class!
Ingredients
3 - 14 oz cans of white beans, drained (any white beans except chickpeas)
3 cups low sodium vegetable broth
1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
6 tablespoons unsweetened/date ketchup
2 tablespoons tomato paste
3 tablespoons date sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
Optional: ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke
Optional: 1 tablespoon molasses
Instructions
1. Add all ingredients except beans to a large pot over medium/high heat. Whisk well.
2. Add drained beans and stir gently.
3. Bring to a boil and then reduce to simmer uncovered for 20 minutes or until desired thickness is achieved, stirring occasionally.
